Scooters and motorbikes
Long gone are the days of .99 cents/litre petrol in Australian cities so it comes as no surprise that people are looking towards different modes of transport such as hybrid cars to limit the dent on shopping budget caused by ever increasing petrol prices.
But for a metropolitan city such as Sydney, that only solves just half the problem because, you see, traffic congestion shows no signs of abating despite the escalating price of petrol and finding a place to park in the city can really be as rare as rocking horse poo.
Ever tried to find parking on George Street on a Saturday night? It's a nightmare!
Which is where a scooter comes into the equation. They are cheap to buy, cheap to run (maintenance costs, servicing etc.) and frugal on fuel not to mention the ease in which they whiz through traffic or their ability to wriggle into the tightest of parking spots.
Those of you that are looking for a scooter as transport will be delighted with the offerings on Gumtree. For $2,800 you can get yourself a neat Honda lead 100cc scooter with low kays, and rego paid until October 2008.
If you're looking for something slightly more powerful, you won't be able to look past the Bug Hawk 250 scooter. This 2005 model has done 31,100 kms and features a 250cc engine, "Polini" kevlar drive belt, alarm system with keyless ignition and custom two-tone paint job. The seller is also throwing in a helmet, riding jacket, riding pants, gloves and a full tank of fuel with the sale. Price? $2600 ono!
If a scooter is too slow and you are after something much more man-ly, the Honda CBR600RR motorcycle will definitely get your blood pumping. This 2005 model 599cc super bike is a replica version of Honda's CBRFx series motorcycles and features a host of race-inspired innovations. Price: $9,600.
