Developing your own photos is an extremely satisfying way to feel like you're taking photos as an art, instead of a hobby... Sitting in a darkened room, watching your print develop in the developer, it brings a sense of tranquility and refreshment to the urbanized human.

Printing large photos in black and white is also a good way to trick people into thinking that you know what you're doing. It looks cool as hell and gives you the impetus to grow scraggly facial hair, if you're a male, or wear some sexily geeky glasses, if you're female.
