Helicopter Rediculousness

Friday’s “lets look at all the fun shit I could never possibly afford week” and I’ve decided to go a bit fucky with a VIP kitted helicopter. According to the Asia Trading Post Online I can get a Russian Mi-17 chopper with an executive makeover. Swanky! Apparently the cost of conversion varies between $600,000 and $1million depending on the outfit and features that are desired. The photos suggest you’re going to get a very James Bond-esque flying mobile. Personally, I think a luxury personal helicopter is far more exciting than some standard executive Learjet. What and awesome way to travel.

Purchasing an Island

Thursday’s “lets look at all the fun shit I could never possibly afford week” and its time to get some real estate. Some may like manors, castles and rolling ranches. I’m more of a beach goer. But why stop at a luxury beachfront mansion when I can buy a whole island. I’ve always like the sound of the Bahamas as a new address. It has a nice ring to it, the climate is just right and provided global warming and hurricanes don’t sweep away my island retreat, I figure an island in the Bahamas could be very me.

Musha Cay is on the market for US$56,000,000. But good god is it a place I could easily amuse myself for the remainder of my life. The island comes complete with a 10,000 square feet plantation house with spectacular views. There are four English colonial style guest villas, eight cottages and a romantic beach house. The recreational complex is fitted with 3 bars, gymnasium, billiard room, tennis court, pool, boats and equipment for water sports.

Hummers

Wednesday’s “lets look at all the fun shit I could never possibly afford week.” I’ve decided to get the ultimate in vehicle excess a Hummer. If you’re fortunate enough to be bathing in money, who needs to worry about fuel economy? Now I could get a souped up suburbanite Hummer, but I think a genuine military vehicle hot off the streets of Kabul is more me.

Checkout this original 1986 HumVee. What an unreal toy to go coasting the streets in. Lets take a look at some of the bells and whistles. On those hot summer days, there’s a sunroof military style… Turret roof w/360 degree rotating pedestal, cantilevered roof opens forward or backwards.
Having problems with your neighbour’s dog that insists on pooping on your front lawn? Try the 50 caliber demilitarized machine gun for some enforcement power. I have visions of patrolling the neighbourhood with a Cartman, “respect my authority,” bumper sticker. Whats more, its fully submersible and can travel through and under 5 feet of water. Now tell me that is not cool?

Megayacht - Pelorus

Tuesday’s “lets look at all the fun shit I could never possibly afford week” and its time to go nautical. Now boats are something I know a little bit about so hopefully I can sort out the lemons from the gems.

Now to get me from A to B in style and with all my fun little tenders, sport fishing boats, jet skis and associated toys, I’ll be needing a big nice fuck off motoryacht. Getting one of these puppies built from scratch can take several years. So if you’re after some fun in the Mediterranean sun in a jiffy, the best bet is to find a broker and purchase a secondhand motoryacht and refit it to your tastes and style. Unless, hanging around for 5 to 10 years is your cup of tea. Motoryachts are one of the few millionaire toys that can hold onto their asset value. Indeed, Greg Norman apparently sold his Aussie Rules at a net profit. This is purely because of the large lag time between commissioning and the delivery of a megayacht.

Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous

This week is “lets look at all the fun shit I could never possibly afford week.” For one week lets pretend I’m Doctor Evil with one billion trillion dollars at my disposal. What are some of the fun toys people with ridiculous amounts of disposable cash can splash out on?

Firstly, why not splash out on a personal airplane. They seem to the au de rigor of celebrities and cashed up businessmen. I must say, I was very surprised with how relatively cheap getting a small light plane actually was. It seems that they are on a comparable scale with purchasing a new car.

It is a new website still finding its feet and traffic, but already there are some quality adverts appearing on the site and with time, this site could become a viable resource for free trading classifieds.

There are two options for posting a classifieds to YouSell. The first involves submitting your information to the webmaster who will place an advert for you. Jesus on a Pregnancy Kit

I think this eBay auction for a piece of driftwood would have to be one of the most ambitious listings I have come across in awhile. Bidding starts at US$5,000. Little wonder there have been few bids. The bidder recounts a touching tale of frolicking along the shores of the Loch, coming across a lone piece of driftwood which she was about to toss back to the murky waters before low and behold, she realized that the impression of the Lochness monster was hidden within the grain. I must say it is somewhat refreshing not to have a yet another devine figure represented in some mundane object.

Cheap Student Classifieds

It’s tough getting by as a university student. Part time jobs don’t pay particularly well and government allowances don’t lend the typical student towards and extravagant lifestyle. When it comes to buying furniture, textbooks, clothes, computers and household appliances often the best way to get value for money is to buy secondhand. Luckily, most universities offer free or low cost classifieds ads for students in their community websites or press. These classifieds can be a terrific source for the financially challenged and are well worth a browse by any student looking for a bargain. The classifieds are a way for students to also trade/sell their goods. Firstly, because as I initially mentioned, the ads are relatively inexpensive. Secondly, because you are focusing on your niche market. There is no point spending ridiculous amounts of money advertising your used goods in a major publication when the majority of readers are not going to be interested in your wares. These are links or resources I’ve found for several university student classifieds.

Asterix & Tintin Comic Genius

I loved Asterix and Tintin as a kid. I had a vast collection of Tintin comic books and Asterix was a favourite when on a trip to the local library. Sadly, these comics seem to have lost their popularity with the new generations. However, with a newphew’s imminent birthday coming up, I’ve decided its time to let the young guns in on the brilliance that is Tintin and Asterix. Finding these comics has proven to be a little difficult. All the large retailers didn’t have a readily available stock of either Tintin or Asterix – blasphemy! I’ve discovered a few secondhand booksellers around Sydney that stock these comics and happened to be in enormous luck coming by a few at local garage sales.

Anyway, I’ve got my nephew his present, but I do believe other elders should be steering their younger siblings towards the likes of Tintin and Asterix. I’ve scoured the internet and telephone book for places where people can obtain these old school comics.

Musicians Trading Post

For all musicians and music lovers out there the Musicians Classifieds is an excellent site for trading and connecting with fellow musicians in your area. There are 40 different categories to browse and find musical instruments and you can also search for bands looking to find musicians. Furthermore, there are some resources and links to organizations and companies in the music industry. It’s a very easy site to navigate and provides a great service for finding cheap musical items. My search revealed a lot of advertisements for various band positions looking to be filled particularly in the rock, metal and punk genre.

The posts feature good detailed information about the item to be traded or position to be filled. Contact information is typically includes an email address and phone number and the location within Australia is given. Grocery Shopping Online

Ok, so I’m deviating from the classifieds theme, but anyway, today I’m promoting the pros and cons of online grocery shopping. I’ve never done the internet grocery shopping thing, but I have a lot of friends who rant about the brilliance of doing the grocery shopping online. For people that can’t stand the queues, wayward shopping trolleys, bawling children and the stress of finding your favourite brand of cheese (why is it that every two weeks a grocery store decides to totally shift the shelving arrangement of stock?), online grocery shopping is the way to go.

I’ve glanced over a few of the online shopping sites and the variety and value for money is closely matched with that of buying instore. When you set up an account there are some handy features which are common of most online grocers. You can keep a standard grocery list saved to your profile. This means you can quickly log on, pluck up your standard grocery items (your standard choice of milk, bread, tinned goods, snacks) with the click of a button, add any extra items you might require, maybe add a few of the weekly specials and within five minutes your shopping is painlessly and efficiently completed… not a toddler trantrum insight. The other advantages of online grocery shopping is that all the items are available for dispactch and you can shop 24hrs a day. This means no useless trips to the grocery store to find the brand of milk you buy has been sold out. Furthermore, if you’re working to a tight schedule, online grocery shopping can save you the expense of precious time.

Finding Neopets

Yesterday it was Tamagotchi’s, today its Neopets.

Neopets is an incarnation of Tamagotchi’s, the difference being that Neopets are managed completely over the internet rather than with a tangible toy. The world of virtual pets provides an outlet for those who can’t own a pet. Since the virtual pet market is aimed it kids, I find it a little trippy that Neopets is really just an online virtual adult world that been coloured with flashy characters and pretty pictures. With the Neodaq index gaming feature, I fear 10 years around the world are going to surpass my limited knowledge of stockmarkets and international trading within a matter of years. Perhaps its not a bad thing and I suppose many children’s games revolve around adult play acting.

Tamagotchi, Neopets and Virtual Pets

Neopets is another of those fads which is sweeping to world’s younger generations. Today, I’m going to look at where the world of virtual pets began… Tamagotchi’s tomorrow, I’ll move onto Neopets. Tamagotchi was realeased on the world gaming stage from Japan in 1997. They were those little keyring sized three button gadgets which kept tweens occupied for hours. Basically, a user had the option of feeding or playing with their virtual pet. By regularly looking after the virtual pet, the user would ensure a happy Tamagotchi, neglect would lead to an unhappy Tamogotchi. A problem with the Tamogotchi toy was that, it needed regular attention. This would mean children would take the toy to school and could be found playing with Tamagotchi’s rather than paying attention. Most school’s ended up banning Tamagotchi’s and I’m sure many principals have confiscation draws full of the buzzing squeaking egg shaped devices. In 2005, MP Nick Xenophon campaigned for a ban of the Tamagotchi’s fearing that the new generation of toys would encourage children to gamble in the future. Apparently, a feature of the game has pokie-like qualities. Furthermore, Tamagotchi’s can kill. According to Wikipeadia, a French motorist killed a cyclist when she decided saving her Tamagotchi was a higher priority than paying attention to the road and surrounding.

Now for those that are in need of some Tamagotchi goodness there are a few places you can source them including all generations of release.

Paddy’s Motor Market

Just off Parramatta Rd in Flemington, Sydney is a Paddy’s Motor Market. Every Sunday from 8:00am to 4:00pm, traders can bring their car, boat, trailer, caravan, jet ski or motorcycle and put it up for sale. To register your car, motorcycle or boat for trade at the Flemington Markets costs $55 per fortnight. This fee includes a pink slip if your vehicle does not already have one. The pink slip inspections are offered on site from 7am to 10am. The market offers free entry and parking for prospective buyers and is a local attraction for many people wishing to purchase a bargain second hand car. The advantage of the motor market is that a variety of secondhand vehicles can be inspected and compared at once. This cuts out a lot of the driving around and general time wasting which occurs when you are shopping for a car online or in a motor trading classifieds.

Car sellers need to make sure they have a current pink slip for their car, the vehicle registration papers and current license for identification purposes.
