On my adventures about the eBay network, I’ve discovered a slick little feature called eBay Express. It is the latest feature to lure new customers and keep the online trading platform more attractive to customers and users. eBay Express is like one big online shopping mall. All the traders are stocked up eBay sellers listing all items at a fixed price. The items for sale are all new and ready for shipment once payment is confirmed. This means no haggling, bidding, waiting and can save to potential disappointment of getting your winning bid swiped in the final stages of an auction.

To Market… To Market 1

Who doesn’t love a good market??? For me, markets are a paradise where you can source a brilliant myriad of nic nacs, clothes, accessories, homewares and gifts. There are a lot of handcrafted items which means you can find truly unique items rather than the boring mass stock of major retailers. A trip to a market can be an all day event, often there’s local entertainment, food stalls with exotic and standard fare, lots of samples and goodies to try and the thrill of finding and obscure treasure or gift is unmatched. There are great markets located throughout Australia and they provide a good weekend activity for tourists, visitors and locals. Over the week, I’m going to review a few of the more popular markets throughout Australia.

Strange Foodstuffs

The seller will claim that this is a lucky horseshoe shaped potato. Personally, I think it looks like a mega turd. Perhaps a fortune cookie, or one of those almond crescent biscuits sans the liberal dusting of icing sugar. Eitherway, a lucky horseshoe shape it is not. This would have to be one of the worst eBay auctions I have seen. There is minimal effort by the seller to try and even make a spectacle of their mediocre item. The marketing effort is paltry,

“May become a famous potato if Jay Leno show's it on his TV show! Get it before it's famous! Value sure to go up!”

Clothes Shopping

The Aussie dollar is rising, or the US dollar is falling. Whichever way you want to look at it, the positive side is that purchasing direct from the US is not so unreasonable when factoring in the exchange rate. Yesterday I provided some urban store links mostly to stores located in Australia. To get something truly unique, why not look towards the international capital, the USA. There are some really brilliant consumer products available in America which never get to Australia. Shipping and the greater strength of the American dollar means that purchasing items from the States is still more expensive than buying locally. However, for something very unique, there’s no crime in splurging and spoiling yourself. Plus, for the careful shopper there are many items which can be purchased at bargain or reduced prices, which goes somewhat towards compensating for the shipping cost. OK, so I’m pulling at straws but an occasionally exotic item from overseas is like a tourism souvenir minus the plane ticket.

Entertainment Must Haves

These are a few must-have items for any home entertainment cabinet.

Top of the list is this Monkey box set. Monkey was one of the best TV shows from my childhood. It was a cult Japanese tv series made in the late 70s. The bizarre tale was about the travels of the Tang Priest Hsüan Tsang (Tripitaka) from reaching a Buddhist monastery in India to retrieve Buddhist scriptures.
The story is based on a Chinese 16th century epic and is set in 630 AD. Each episode revolves around the perils encountered by Tripitaka and his guides the hero Monkey, pig monster, Pigsy and Sandy the camp water monster. Actually, they all the characters are rather camp. I’m a self confessed sneaker junkie. I’m an avid collector, some might say I’m the Imelda Marcos of sneakers and they wouldn’t be too far off the mark. Who can blame me, sneakers are the most comfortable footwear and come in such a variety of shades, colours to match every occasion and outfit. For those that suffer from a sneaker collection fetish, checkout some of these cool sneakers available on eBay.

These Le Bron Green and Gold Nike Air Force Ones are hot. Firstly, the colour is perfect for a true Socceroo’s fan. Secondly, I would personally rate these shoes as some of the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever slipped into. Pinball Machines

Dare I admit, I used to love pin ball machines as a kid. Now they are becoming collectors items with some of the appreciating to double their value over a couple years. I’d love to have a pinball machine in my house. Check out some of these cool retro puppies selling on eBay.

Beat the Petrol Hikes

Zipping about town on a scooter would have to be one of the cheapest modes of automated transportation available. And with some of the cool chic styles about a scooter is a must for any inner city suburbs fashionista. Some of the higher quality scooters can be on the pricey side, especially if you want something with a bit of grunt in it. Preferably you want something that can get you and the grocery shopping up any local hills. Vespa produces some really cute looking scooters. In my opinion they are the original and still the best. I had a 250cc and personally I would recommend that anyone wanting a scooter ensures they don’t sink below a 250 power rating. I never had troubles getting around on the 250, however, on days when I was packed down with a load of uni textbooks and shopping I could feel my Vespa chugging its little heart out getting up some of the steeper slopes around Sydney, notably the Gladesville Bridge. If you’re sure you’re sticking to the flat roads and not intending on carry much of a load, a 150cc will probably be fine and a much cheaper option.

Apparently this little gem can add up to 20 hp on your engine’s output, increase your car’s acceleration and top end speed. What you’ll be getting is a Timing Advancement Resistor Mod and instructions for reprogramming the engine control unit. According to the seller, this product will not harm your car, void its warranty, is simple to install and uninstall and no tools are required. It also comes with a lifetime guarantee. Pretty impressive and all great claims, but how does it work.

Any car that you buy today from a normal automobile manufacturer has a number of compromises built into it. This is built into the design largely to meet environmental emission standards. A modification to the engine control unit can increase the performance of your car by reprogramming the way the engine runs to gain greater power output. The featured product on eBay works on this principle, however, rather than directly modifying the ECU, a resistor is connected to the Airflow Temperature Sensor.
The ATS is coupled directly to the ECU so it can be used to indirectly modify the ECU’s settings. The theory being that by modifying the output of the ATS, the ECU will read the intake air coming in at a different temperature and density and thus compensate by altering the air/fuel mixture delivered to the cylinders.

The Volunteer Paradox

People are still trying to flog off their Sydney 2000 Olympic volunteer's uniforms. Its not just uniforms either, you can buy anything from hats, bumbags, ties and lanyards.

It seems like such a paradox that people are happy to volunteer two weeks of their time do some part time sports marshalling and then try and squeeze out every possible cent from the ghastly, cheap gifts they've been provided.

Lets face it, sporting event uniforms are hardly fashion items. Two words come to mind, cheap and nasty. Since they only have to last two weeks and the purpose is to help identify officials quickly, its little wonder that they're splashed with patterns and colour combinations even the most brave dresser wouldn't be seen dead in. All said and done, once the event is over, its time to pop that little piece of memorabilia in the family shoebox and perhaps pull it out for the grankids.
